Hi everyone

Wasn't sure where to post this one- here goes.

You might have noticed in the news recenty about a new breed of 'hugger'muggers who operate by puting their arm round their victim in a friendly hug then robbing them. Originally it seemed to be late night revelers that were being targeted but it's now happening in the daytime- and possibly to those of us less mobile.

I was just going into the forecourt at Liverpool St tube station last Weds ( limping along, stick in hand)when I was approached from the side by a man who had his arm outstretched as if he was about to give me a hug. He said something to the effect of' How are you- are you ok?' so I just ignored him and carried on walking. It it was only when I thought about it afterwards, havving read it in the paper, that I wondered if I might have been a target. or maybe he was just being nice? Who knows. Seemed a bit strange though. Idiot that I am,I should have reproted it but never thought at the time. Thought I'd alert you all just in case - but maybe it's just me being paranoid.

Thanks Maria, I do think you feel alot more vulnerable and an easier target when you have a walking stick.

We might be a easier target with a walking stick- but I've still got a vicious tongue!!!

Reminds me of a dear 80 something neighbour who was targeted by some youths when she had a shopping trolley. They certainly under estimated her and were not prepared foe the verbal bashing she gave them!

Actually this reminded me of the time when my tiny late father-in-law bashed a would be intruder into his sheltered accomodation flat, over the head and shoulders with his walking stick and the intruder fled from the building!
